Giles Perring, in a collaboration with digital photographer Douglas Cape of Z360, presents a performance of The Exchange.
The Exchange is a series of events that explores ideas about music, communication and performance. It explores, celebrates and expands the ability of the telephone to link people who, though physically, geographically remote from each other, can share intimacy and communicate in realtime.
By using phones, many people, in many different places can take part in a performance that is watched in only one place. The performers are 'remote' from each other, and from the place where the performance is watched. At such distance, performance is experienced in a different way, by both performer and audience.
It is a performance that moves people to "sense the excitement and magic that is still part of what the telephone allows us to do".
With the introduction of live picture messaging [courtesy of Vodafone Live!], this third performance in The Exchange series will explore the creative potential of modern telecommunications technology in what promises to be a highly individual art event.
There will be an interactive screening of the gathered material on Saturday 8 November at Modern Art Oxford.
